About this facility browse listing
This page browses every industrial facility that filed a Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) report to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under EPCRA section 313. The TRI program collects information on toxic chemical releases and waste-management activities from manufacturing, mining, electric utilities, and federal-facility operations across the United States. A facility appears in this list when it meets all three TRI reporting criteria: it is in a covered industry sector, has the equivalent of 10 or more full-time employees, and manufactures, processes, or otherwise uses a TRI-listed chemical above the activity threshold for that chemical.
The total release figure for each facility is a mass total (in pounds) summing on-site air, water, land, and underground-injection releases plus off-site transfers for further waste management. The figure aggregates across all chemicals reported by the facility and does not weight by chemical toxicity, persistence, or bioaccumulation potential. Facilities reporting larger volumes of less-toxic chemicals will rank above facilities reporting smaller volumes of more-hazardous substances under this raw-mass ordering. For comparative analysis that incorporates relative-toxicity weighting, the EPA publishes the Risk-Screening Environmental Indicators (RSEI) model separately from the TRI raw data.
How to use this listing
Use the sort controls at the top of the table to rank facilities by name (alphabetical A–Z), by total releases (largest to smallest), or by chemical-count diversity (most distinct TRI chemicals first). The alphabetical index lets you jump to facilities whose name starts with a specific letter. Use the search controls on the BrowseHeader to filter by name fragment, by industry code, or by state. Clicking any facility name opens the facility detail page with the full reported-chemical breakdown, multi-year release history where available, parent-company affiliation, and Census-tract location.
Cross-reference any facility against our companion data surfaces: the state-level rollup shows aggregate facility count, water-system count, and Superfund site count by state. The chemical-level rollup ranks the 600+ TRI-reportable chemicals by total reported release mass and shows the facilities reporting each chemical. The research section contains live SSR-from-DB analyses comparing state, county, and chemical concentration patterns. The methodology page documents the upstream data sources, ingest cadence, and editorial choices that shape every figure on this site.
The data shown reflects the most recent TRI-reporting-year ingest. The EPA publishes annual TRI data in two stages: a preliminary public-release file each summer covering the prior calendar year, followed by a finalized Basic Data File later in the year. Reporting revisions can occur as facilities correct earlier filings or as the EPA publishes data quality updates. We refresh the PlainEnviro database each TRI cycle and document the ingest date in the per-facility detail pages. For research and citation use, prefer the EPA Envirofacts portal as the authoritative original source.
